Turkish-Russian economic relations gained momentum starting from the 1990s, particularly showcasing significant development in construction, tourism, energy, and agricultural product exports. During the 90s when Russia took radical steps towards transitioning to a free market economy, Turkish companies, with their dynamic and proactive structures, were quick to engage in significant projects, especially in the construction sector, ahead of many firms from other countries.

The idea of bringing together the increasing number of Turkish entrepreneurs and their activities throughout Russia under the umbrella of a business association emerged during this period, leading to the establishment of the Russian-Turkish Businessmen's Association (RTIB) in Moscow in 1997.

For over 20 years since its establishment, RTIB has aimed to foster unity and solidarity among Turkish entrepreneurs and the Turkish community living in Russia, addressing issues, contributing to the promotion of our country within Russian society and authorities.

Over the years, RTIB has organized business trips, conferences, success story seminars, sectoral reports, publications such as magazines and books, and many other activities in Russia and Turkey. It has recently focused on enhancing friendship and cooperation between the two countries, particularly emphasizing cultural activities. RTIB's support to the newly established International Andrey Karlov Foundation stands as a prime example of its efforts.

Moreover, the documentary film "Turkey: A New Beginning," premiered in Russia in September, narrating success stories of the Turkish community in Russia, represents another significant cultural initiative undertaken by RTIB.

RTIB comprises around 200 Turkish member firms, accounting for nearly all of the $12 billion direct investments in Russia made by these companies. The employment generated by RTIB member firms in Russia amounts to around 100,000 people.

RTIB aims to further enhance its capabilities to better fulfill its functions, seeking active coordination and collaboration with Turkish and Russian institutions and organizations.
