The Turkish community celebrated the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey in Moscow, Russia.Organized by the Russian-Turkish Business Association (RTIB), a celebration was held in a hall in Sokolniki Park in Moscow to mark the upcoming Republic Day.
The event was attended by Turkish Ambassador to Moscow Tanju Bilgiç, RTİB Chairman Erdem Acay, the RTİB board of directors and member businesspeople, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations, Turkish citizens living in Moscow, and Russian guests.
The program included Turkish and Russian folk dance performances, a piano concert, and the recitation of poems about Republic Day. Turkish Ambassador to Moscow Bilgiç presented plaques to the event's sponsors.
In his speech, Bilgiç commemorated Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, his comrades-in-arms, and all martyrs and veterans, explaining that the country has developed in many areas over the past 102 years. Emphasizing that Türkiye is a very large country economically and that it is developing every day, Bilgiç said, "When the Republic of Turkey was founded, the literacy rate was around 10 percent; now it's 97 percent. There were approximately 60 secondary schools in Türkiye, and today, 12.5 million students are receiving secondary education. Per capita income was around $50 today; now it's around $16,000."
Also touching on Turkish-Russian relations during the founding years of the Republic, Bilgiç said, "Our Russian friends made a significant contribution to the establishment of our Republic. If the Soviet Union hadn't contributed to the early years of our Republic, this process would have been much more difficult for us."

RTİB President Erdem Acay also emphasized in his speech that the business community in Russia is striving to expand their own businesses and increase the business volume of both countries, despite all the challenges, to contribute to the development of the Republic of Turkey. Acay said, "Although there are certain challenges in the world and in this region, we wholeheartedly believe that much good work can be done. Our Turkish businesspeople are also contributing to Turkish-Russian relations with these efforts."
