A commemoration event was held at the grave of poet Nazım Hikmet Ran in Moscow, the capital of Russia, on the 62nd anniversary of his death.

A ceremony was held at the Novodevichy Cemetery under the auspices of the Turkish Embassy in Moscow, in cooperation with the Russian-Turkish Businessmen's Association (RTİB) and the Moscow Nazım Hikmet Culture and Art Foundation.

The ceremony was attended by Turkish Ambassador to Moscow Tanju Bilgiç, RTİB President Erdem Acay, Moscow Nazım Hikmet Culture and Art Foundation President Ali Galip Savaşır, artist Zülfü Livaneli and Turkish and Russian citizens.

Ambassador Bilgiç and citizens laid wreaths and carnations at Nazım Hikmet's grave.

In the event where the commemoration speeches were made, Bilgiç stated that Nazım Hikmet left behind immortal works and that the poet's voice reached from Latin America to Asia, from Europe to Africa.

Bilgiç said, “He built bridges of friendship by telling the story of Turks to Russians and Russians to Turks with his writings and poems. The heart and friendship bridges that Nazım built continue to connect us to each other.”

RTİB President Acay said that Nazım Hikmet united everyone with his poems and struggle, and said, “We cannot be proud enough to have such a value, a poet whose words crossed continents.”

Ali Galip Savaşır also stated that they organized events throughout the year to keep Nazım Hikmet’s name alive, and said, “We are making an effort to introduce and convey Nazım Hikmet and his works to the new generation.”
